Instrument
and measuring principle
Measures the particle size distribution using laser dynamic light scattering (DLS). NIBS technology (Non-Invasive Back-Scatter) allows measurement on concentrated samples - no or little dilution necessary. The HPPS (High Performance Particle Sizer) can perform measurements in the temperature range 10 to 55°C.
Parameters and application
The HPPS measures the particle size of stable emulsions and suspensions in the range 0.6 nm to 6 µm.
Typical applications: Small particles such as proteins and peptides, micelles and viruses, organic and inorganic nano-particles and pigments.

Malvern HPPS.
Prerequisite
Minimum 20 microliters and max. 3 mL of stable emulsion / suspension.
The viscosity of the emulsion / suspension and the refractive index of the two phases at a wavelength of 632.8 nm has to be determined.
