Health authorities are becoming increasingly aware of the importance of particle properties for the quality and safety of pharmaceutical products. This trend is obvious in the ICH guidelines on Test procedures and acceptance criteria for new drug substances and new drug products: Chemical substances. The Figure shows the cases where particle size specification for the active substance has to be considered according to ICH.
